Libra ist noch nicht live, schon wird eine wichtige Komponente umbenannt: Aus Calibra wird Novi^[1]Welcome to Novi.

Bei Calibra handelte es sich um ein digitales Wallet, das als Depot dienen und in dem die digitale Währung Libra gespeichert werden sollte. Ebenso sollte die Identifizierung der Nutzer über Calibra erfolgen^[2]Calibra – ein ziemliches Kaliber: Endspiel für die Banken- und Medienindustrie.

Wie Libra-Chef David Marcus mitteilt, wird aus Calibra Novi.

Novi was inspired by the Latin words “novus” for “new” and “via” for “way.” It’s a new way to send money, and Novi’s new visual identity and design represent the fluid movement of digital currencies. We’ve also included a nod to the Libra icon in the brand logo to underscore our commitment to the Libra network.

Als Firma hinter Novi agiert Novi Financial.

Am Funktionsumfang hat sich auf den ersten Blick nichts geändert. Das trifft auch auf die Identifizierung zu:

All Novi customers will be verified using government-issued ID, and fraud protections will be built in throughout the app.

Die Umbenennung soll anscheinend dazu dienen, die Nähe zwischen Libra und Calibra nicht allzu sehr zu betonen. Da klingt Novi irgendwie unverdächtiger 😉
